PICK OF THE WEEK— Friday, Sept. 1 to Saturday, Sept. 2: Interested in learning about Omaha’s more menacing past? Do you enjoy hearing ghost stories and visiting possible haunted sites? Better check out the Midwest Paranormal History Tour. You will visit at least two sites and get the details on the reported paranormal goings on at each. Some of these locations you may have heard about, others may surprise you. Travel the city and get your freaky on. The tours last about three hours and transportation is provided between locations. Go here to check out the calendar and book your tickets here now. Seriously. They’re going fast.
Friday, Sept. 1 to Sunday Sept. 3: Celebrate everything Italian at this weekend’s annual La Festa Italiana. The Santa Lucia marching band will perform all three days, and a different local band will play each evening. Bellino Fireworks will light things up after both Saturday and Sunday performances. And, of course, there’s the food, the wine, and even a little bocce ball if you’re interested. A traditional Catholic mass will be held Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. To find out more, click here.
Friday, Sept. 1 to Monday, Sept. 4: This year’s annual Septemberfest marks its’ 40th year—and it’s still going strong. This “salute to labor” event draws people from around the Midwest and lasts all four days of the Labor Day weekend. There’s food, music, clowns, rides, and even some MMA fighting (just in case you didn’t get your fill of fighting last weekend). The Omaha Rollergirls will be there too, repping Omaha against the Stone Cold Foxes of Kansas. There’s so much going on, we can’t list it all here. For a complete rundown of the schedule, go here.
Friday, Sept. 1: Start your weekend with music, food, and tasty drinks at Jake’s Annual Block Party in Benson. Thanks to the folks at Jake’s Cigars, you can catch performances by local musicians High Up, Those Far Out Arrows, Mesonjixx, and Thick Paint, all for just five bucks. Come out, dance in the streets, and enjoy the weather while you can, because who knows how long it will last? Click here if you’re interested in kicking off Labor Day weekend with a bang.
Saturday, Sept. 2:  Can’t get enough of that hardcore stuff? Then you’re in luck, because it’s time for Hardcore Showcase 8 at Milk Run. With more than 15 bands lined up, you’re guaranteed to hear something you like. For only $5, (yet again), this is a deal you can’t beat. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the shows start at 2 p.m., with Suzi Q kicking things off. Get a complete list of who’s playing when here.
Sunday, Sept. 3: If you’re fortunate enough to know, or even just to have met and maybe had a conversation with Nayef Zgkurt, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to help out this “Sweetest Prince” at the Nayef Fundraiser! at Nite Owl this Sunday night. Money raised will help Nayef pay down his mounting medical bills. It’s Labor Day weekend, so no excuses about having to work in the morning. Get out and spread the love, which there is clearly an abundance of, as evidenced by the donations for the raffle that evening. So far donations are in from more than 30 businesses, and they aren’t joking around. There’s also a Go Fund Me page in case you have a legit reason for not making it out. To get all the details you need to help him out, go here.
Monday, Sept. 4: The fighting fun continues and this time you can watch it live at the CenturyLink Center’s WWE Monday Night Raw. You can catch the superstars of the WWE, including Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, The Miz, and so many more showing off their best moves, to say nothing of their best lines. Win, lose, draw, or drop, you won’t want to miss seeing your favorites live and in person. Watch them throw down and get raw this Labor Day, starting at 6:30 p.m. Get in on the action here.
