PICK OF THE WEEK—Saturday, June 24: If you missed last week’s Pride Parade, don’t worry. There’s still time to celebrate and honor diversity at this Saturday’s Heartland Pride Festival. The festival is once again at Stinson Park in Aksarben. Gates open at 11 a.m. and the party doesn’t stop until 10 p.m. Bring lawn chairs or blankets so you can spend the day checking out the booths and enjoying the entertainment. Who knows? You might meet your future life partner there. Maybe at the Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue booth? To get more details, head here.

Thursday, June 22: Tonight you can catch a free outdoor screening of Selena in the courtyard of El Museo Latino, in collaboration with Film Streams, and funded in part by Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment. There will be a brief bilingual presentation about the cultural and artistic significance of the movie beforehand. Lawn seating will be available starting at 7 p.m. and food trucks will be on hand if you don’t have time to eat dinner before heading out. The presentation starts at 9 p.m., but get there early! It’s looking like the courtyard will be packed for this film favorite. To learn more, click here.

Friday, June 23: What goes better together than metal and barbecue? This Friday you can find both at The Waiting Room as they celebrate Midwest Elite Concert’s seven-year anniversary with their annual Great American Metal BBQ 2017. For only $8, you get to see five Midwest metal bands and some delicious barbecue. The show starts at 8 p.m. To get more details and to purchase tickets, go here.

Saturday, June 24: Feel like getting out of the city this weekend but not sure where to go? How about taking a quick trip to Thurman, Iowa, to check out the Lavender Bloom Festival? This annual festival at Moonstone Lavender Gardens celebrates the diversity of lavender, with food and drinks made from the aromatic flower. The garden opens at 1 p.m., but this year the festivities don’t start until 6 p.m., so attendees can beat the heat. You can make your own lavender wreaths or just hang out and listen to some music while sipping some lavender lemonade. To find out more, go here.

Saturday, June 24: Can’t make it out of town this weekend? Then you just need to make it down to 38th and Farnam streets to have a little early evening fun. Brothers Lounge is having another Omaha Record Swap, and it’s going to be a good one. Hosted by Vinyl therapy record shop and several other local music stores, there will be plenty of records to peruse. Whether you’re swapping, buying, or hoping to finally find that one impossible-to-find album, this is the place for all vinyl fanatics. If you happen to strike out, don’t forget—there’s also booze available to help with the hurt. So head to Brothers and don’t forget to make good choices. The swapping starts at 4 p.m. and goes until 7 p.m. For more info, click here.

Saturday, June 24: Looking for something more food-based this Saturday? Plattsmouth has you covered with their first Nebraska Food Truck Wars. The trucks will take over Main Street from 6-11 p.m. and they’ll be serving up everything from churros to Thai food. There will also be live music in the beer garden starting at 7 p.m., so be sure to wear your dancing shoes. Check out what they’re serving up here.

Sunday, June 25: Looking for a relaxing way to end the weekend? What better way to chill out and wind down after a long summer weekend than by watching the ’90s cult classic Dazed and Confused? And there’s no more appropriate way to view it than at a drive-in. Hullabaloo Music Group and Falconwood Park (formerly Sokol Park) in Bellevue are giving you that chance. Watch Randall “Pink” Floyd and friends as they kick off their Texas summer in all the not-so-right ways. Plus, you get to see Matthew McConaughey in his OG Texan role as the slightly-creepy-yet-somehow-still-likable Wooderson. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. You don’t have to go, but it’d be a lot cooler if you did. Head right on over here for all the details.
